Rufus L. Cole is a trial lawyer with over 35 years of experience in matters requiring a high degree of professional ability, judgment and skill. After receiving a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics from Stanford University, Mr. Cole attended the University of Michigan Law School where he received his Juris Doctor degree in 1973. Before leaving Michigan to return to California, Mr. Cole established himself as a capable trial attorney by trying three jury trials to successful conclusions and participating in numerous hearings before administrative tribunals. He was also honored with a Reginald Heber Smith Community Lawyer Fellowship in 1973 and 1974.

Mr. Cole returned to Northern California where he established the firm of Cole and Scott in 1976, practicing extensively in state and federal court, prosecuting and defending individuals and businesses in such areas as contract disputes, wrongful termination, general negligence, employer/employee grievances, and civil rights violations. In 1984, he opened Rufus L. Cole & Associates where he continued his focus on these areas providing legal representation to a wide variety of clients, among which include Bayview-Hunters Point Foundation, Pacific Gas and Electric Company, Pacific Bell, Wells Fargo Bank, Executone of Northern California, Contel Corporation, Golden Gate Regional Center, ARISCO Insurance Company and Drew Heal Foundation.

As a former chair of the California State Bar Executive Committee on Law Practice Management, Mr. Cole has participated in numerous legal seminars. In addition to be a contributing author to California Civil Procedure Before Trial, Third Edition, he has conducted workshops, training programs and continuing legal education programs for practicing lawyers, including programs sponsored by Hastings College of Law.

Mr. Cole is a member of the State Bar of California, the United States District Court, the Bar Association of San Francisco, the California Minority Counsel Program, the Charles Houston Bar Association, the California Association of Black Lawyers, and the American Bar Association.
